When it comes time to pick up a good book, there are many to choose from, thanks to many prolific writers who wrote during the last hundred years or so. Now it's even possible to buy an ebook, making it easier than ever to be able to enjoy fiction on your own free time. One genre of books that is extremely enjoyable to read are books by black authors. There are a number of black authors who have brought a great deal to the table in the literary world.
African American literature has been around for a very long time, even back to the time when slaves were still picking produce in the fields. But books by African Americans came to a pinnacle and began to be noticed during the 1920's, when the Harlem Renaissance started. It was during this time when African American writers were able to gain a foothold in the literary world and to truly show the world what they were capable of writing.
Now there are many black authors available to read at a moments notice, but back then, being a black author was not necessarily a good thing. These authors had to put up with a great deal of questioning and even some persecution, which makes their stories and their African American novels even more amazing to be able to experience.
One of the foundations that helped African American fiction authors to be able to make the grade is the NAACP. The NAACP is an acronym which stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and they were extremely influential in helping many African American fiction authors to be able to reach their goal of becoming a household name.
One of the ways that the NAACP made it possible for people to experience African American literature was through creating book clubs, or clubs that were often called black expressions book clubs. These clubs still exist today, and give people the ability to read many different black authors, both those that were alive over a hundred years ago and those who are still alive and writing today.
